Community Walkabout

Following a Community Walkabout on Saturday 10th June 2023, with Borough Councillors Cllr Sarah Hands; Cllr Paul Ockelton and Parish Councillors Cllr Rick Harris; Cllr John Redfern and members of the community.

Cllr Hands has documented the issues raised and updated with information where appropriate, see below.

Community Walkabout 10 June 2023

TWIGWORTH GREEN

STREET SIGNS. All signs are now on site and ready to install. Any broken or incorrect signs are in the process of being replaced. Those that haven’t yet been installed or are in the wrong place are awaiting county highways to come out to site and sign off the placement.

– LIGHTING. All existing street lights should now be working bar those on or near the roundabout In front of the sales office. These are awaiting the contractor to connect them up.

– CHILDREN’S PLAY AREA. The play area is being installed very soon and will be ready in 2 months.

– FLOODING FOOTPATH BEHIND SALES OFFICE. Drainage is going to be dug out along the fence and then diverted to the swale. This should help in the interim. When the site office has gone everything can be leveled out properly.

– DOG BINS (lack of!) There is some confusion on who has the funding, if any for this. So we will be looking into the section 106 with officers this week and if needed will work with the Parish Council to find solutions.

– BUS STOP. The Parish council approved designs for this including a bin quite a while ago. We need to contact highways and stagecoach to arrange a site visit as there seems to be some differences in opinion on whether it is a bus route. Obviously it is as the bus comes round regularly!

– SCHOOL. Sadly we don’t have any promising information on this currently. This is something that was stipulated when the planning went to appeal and Paul and I are quite prepared to fight for it! It is our priority this week to get all of the background on this from the LEA and County Council. As soon as we have any information on a way forward I will update.

POSTBOX AT LOCAL CENTRE

Parish Councillor John Redfern is happy to fill an application out for this as it needs to be a resident. (application submitted, awaiting Royal Mail response)

A38.

The next step with all A38 issues including:

Speed

Crossings

Signage (dirty or not visible and missing roundabout signs)

VAR speed signs

Is to arrange a site visit with highways, Parish and county councillors.

Any issues to do with highways and significant changes such as speed limits are not quick to resolve but hopefully we can all positively work together to get things kick started.

PLANNING ISSUES

There have been some comments regarding planning applications in the area including the large solar farm.

As Paul and I are both on the Planning Committee we cannot comment on these.

If you have any comments please use the TBC website to submit them. Twigworth Parish Council frequently post planning applications on their Facebook Page and Website.

As always we are open to chat with any residents.

Volunteer Recognition Awards 2023

Neighbourhood Watch would love it if you would consider nominating one of their volunteers or groups to recognise their contribution to our community’s health and wellbeing, a crime prevention initiative that helped the residents feel safer and better connected or maybe they did something to bring the community together, reaching more people that ever and getting you better connected.

Longford Village Fayre

Longford Village Community are planning to host a Summer Fayre on Sat 1st July 23 from 11am – 3pm….. they would love your community support, as a result of a successful Jubilee Event last year.

Come along and enjoy a get together!

If you fancy a stall on the day or might like to offer some time to volunteer please drop an email to lvh.friends@gmail.com

Community Walkabout

One of our pledges as a new administration is that we want to be as open as possible with communities and listen to constituents concerns and ideas.

As part of this, Paul and I are in the process of securing venues for regular councillor surgeries in all three parishes and would like to hold walkabouts throughout the year.

The Twigworth walkabout will be this Saturday 10th June. We already have a list of places to visit given to us by several members of the public. If you can’t join us and would like to add an area/road to our list, please send us an email.

We look forward to meeting some of you over the next three weeks.
