Regards to the issue of dog poo bags. We have lived here 5 years with a pet dog and have never had any issues like this until now. My wife and I have collected numerous dog poo bags being left hanging in the tree branches and hedges along the driveway to Nature in Art. We have seen dog waste outside the shops on the grass. It seems to us that this problem has only arisen since the building of Twigworth Green. Perhaps those residents need to be targeted and shamed, not others.
I have just been elected as a new Parish Councillor and I have been overhauling the Parish Council website and came across your message that you sent well over a year ago but I did not see any reply … so I wanted to be sure that you received an answer…. many apologies if you have not received a reply.
I am also new to the village, moving here in late 2021, I also live at Twigworth Green and a dog owner.
There is no excuse for any dog owner not to clean up after their dog, nor any excuse for not having the means to do so or disposing of their waste correctly after.
There has been a gradual increase in the dog population of Twigworth and as a village we are woefully short of Dog Waste Bins, there are two on the main road near the Co-Op, I believe one on Orchard Park and a new one on the Twigworth Green roundabout… the latter being installed after I raised this issue in early 2022… more Dog Waste Bins are needed in specific areas and the council is aware of this…. this is however no excuse for dog owners not not cleaning up or disposing of the waste correctly.. signs have been erected on lampposts around the Twigworth Green development and other places, reminding dog owners of their responsibility.
Tewkesbury Borough Council have tightened its rules on dog control – and reminding dog owners to always clean up after their dog.
The council has implemented a new Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) to address the problem of dog fouling in public areas within the borough, aiming to ensure that everyone in charge of a dog acts responsibly by cleaning up its waste.
Thankfully, most people are picking up after their pets, but the small few who don’t are continuing to risk the health of others.
Dog faeces carries the risk of disease, particularly Toxocariasis – an infection caused by roundworm parasites.
The PSPO, which will remain in place for three years, replaces the previous order for dog control and includes additional offences.
As in the earlier order, it is an offence for dog walkers to not clean up after their dog in any public place, and to fail to have with them a means of picking up dog waste.
In addition, the new PSPO prohibits dog walkers from letting their dog into any children’s play park designated as a dog-free area. It also makes it an offence to refuse to provide personal details if requested by a council officer, or to give false details.
To enforce the order, officers from the council’s environmental health team will patrol areas that have been identified as particularly affected by dog fouling, and anyone failing to comply with its terms could be fined up to £1000.
Double-bag dog and cat waste and put into your home Green Wheelie Bin.
Members of the public are encouraged to report any breaches of the PSPO via the council’s website or by emailing: ehenquiries@tewkesbury.gov.uk
I hope this provides an answer for you, again many apologies for its lateness…. but please do not hesitate to contact us if there is specific area that is a problem and we will follow this up.
