    1. Hello Keith

      Thank you for your comments

I am replying to you as a new resident of the Twigworth Green development and someone who cares about the community and wants to make a difference,

You mention “community spirit”, I appreciate that community spirit doesn’t just happen overnight, it takes time and the willingness of people to contribute to their community, that is why I became a Parish Councillor soon after moving here.

We have to accept that Twigworth is a fast changing community, this year has seen many changes, we have already doubled in size compared to a few years ago, with that brings many challenges, we started out as a small village in the 13th century and for the next few hundred years not much happened, then just before 2020, new housing developments with up to 1000 homes were approved and everything since has changed!

Twigworth was never prepared for such a big change so quickly, at a time when the community started to grow, the Church of St Matthew had recently closed and was put up for sale by the Church Commissioners, the School had already closed, there were no shops or postal facilities, there was no Village Hall, or indeed any other community facility where residents could meet socially, including a sports field with changing facilities.

However, since the new developments started, we are fortunate now to have our Local Centre with the CoOp and Janes Pantry, with the remaining units soon to occupied, including a Hair Salon, Wine Store

We shall soon be having our very own sports fields and changing facilities, where residents will be able to meet socially, this is now beginning to take shape and should be completed by the end of next year, so we shall see football teams and other sports making full use of the Multi-Use Games Area.

To answer your question about what do we expect when new housing developments are built?

This is not a new development issue, it is a people issue, we do not expect littering anywhere by anyone, it is not just Twigworth Green, people have to take responsibility and the majority do, it is just a handful who choose not to conform to the norm.

There has been littering and fly-tipping elsewhere in Twigworth, where there has also been vandalism to property, none of this happened on a new development.

The Parish Council and myself will be working tirelessly to create a community that all residents can be proud of.

Please continue to share your thoughts and any suggestions that would help the community come together, not just on the new development but Twigworth as a whole.

I hope that you and your family, have a Merry Christmas.

      Cllr John Redfern
      Twigworth Parish Council
